Registration Policy

There is an enormous problem of Cotons de Tulear being sold in pet stores in the United States and in Canada. The USACTC, Inc will not register any Cotons de Tulear that were purchased from an animal auction, a pet store and/or commercial multi-canine breeding business such as a puppy mill. Registration applications reflect this policy:"By my signature below I CERTIFY that this dog was NOT purchased from a pet store, an animal auction, and/or a commercial multi-canine breeding business (i.e. puppy mill)"

Full Registration

FULL BREEDING RIGHTS, may only be determined by the BREEDER OF DOG. Breeder must provide club with documentation stating this designation.

Provisional Registration

TEMPORARY REGISTRATION STATUS - THIS DOG MAY NOT BE BRED UNLESS THE STATUS OF THIS DOG IS CHANGED BY THE BREEDER TO FULL REGISTRATION. The BREEDER must notify the club in WRITING of this change in registration status. A dog with PROVISIONAL papers may be shown in conformation shows, obedience and/or agility trials. The BREEDER is the sole authority who may make the determination of final registration status of the dog. If the dog is deermined by the breeder to be limited registration, then the registration application MUST be accompanied by a veterinarian certificate of spay or neuter. No puppies born to a dog in provisional status will be registered by the USACTC, Inc.

Limited Registration

NO BREEDING RIGHTS. This dog will not be registered until it has been spayed or neutered. Proof in the form of a certificate from a veterinarian is required. This certificate must accompany the registration application.

Color of the Coton de Tulear

The colors on the registration forms are:

1. White
2. White/Gray
3. White/Fawn
4. White/Fawn/Gray

Requirements for USACTC, Inc. Registration

1. For registrations purposes, the USACTC accepts FCI and USACTC pedigrees. If your dog is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, the Kennel Club of Great Britain, or UKC – please send us your registration application with copies of your current pedigree(s) and we will work with you to help get your dogs USACTC registered in cases where the ancestry and confirmation of quality can be verified. Cases outside these parameters are determined on an individual basis. If your dog is registered with an organization not listed above, please contact the USACTC Registrar at 606-478-8295 or registrar@usactc.org for more information.

2. Dogs from USACTC, Inc. registered parents in which the litter is not registered will require the breeder's signature on the form with the "quality" assigned by the breeder.

3. The registration application must be completed in its entirety to be processed.

4. Registration applications must have signatures of the breeder, the owner of record, and the new owner if applicable.

5. The breeder is the sole authority to designate FULL (breeding) or PROVISIONAL (may be changed to either FULL or LIMITED by the BREEDER ONLY) status. An owner may NOT make this determination.

6. No application will be processed without the correct fee attached.

7. Cotons purchased from a pet shop, raffle, auction, puppy broker or from a puppy mill will NOT be registered by the USACTC, Inc.

8. A LIMITED (non-breedable) dog will NOT be registered until it has been spayed or neutered. Proof in the form of a certificate from a veterinarian is required. This form must accompany the application.

9. Litters or puppies from a LIMITED (non-breeding or companion) sire or dam will NOT be registered.
