Welcome USACTC Members from the AKC

I would like to take the opportunity to welcome the USACTC as the Parent Club for the Coton de Tulear as approved by the AKC Board of Directors at the April Meeting.

Staff looks forward to working with you as you become more familiar with AKC procedures and AKC Events.

Staff is currently working with the Officers of the USACTC on the voluntary submission of dogs from the USACTC registry to the AKC Foundation Stock Service®.

The breed is currently eligible to compete in AKC Companion Events, which includes Obedience, Rally and Agility. Members have already been competing very successfully in these events earning many titles. To be eligible to compete in AKC events, your dog must be enrolled in the AKC Foundation Stock Service®.

Questions in regards to enrollment in AKC that I have received to date:

What registries will AKC accept for enrollment into the AKC Foundation Stock Service®?

AKC will accept the domestic registries listed on the AKC Web Site as designated by USACTC for the breed as well as United Kennel Club and any foreign registry, Canada and FCI countries with registries recognized by the AKC. This list can be found:

What application do I use to submit a dog for enrollment in the AKC Foundation Stock Service® if it is not being submitted from the USACTC?

The application for an individual dog can be found on the AKC website under Downloadable Forms:

How do I register a litter after both the sire and dam are enrolled in AKC Foundation Stock Service®?

You will submit the Foundation Stock Service Litter Application that is available on the AKC Web Site:

What will I receive when the USACTC submits my dog’s information to the AKC Foundation Stock Service®?

You will receive an AKC Foundation Stock Certificate with the enrollment number for your dog. You will still have your USACTC pedigree, if you wish to order an AKC Foundation Stock Pedigree you may order by contacting the AKC Order Desk: 919-233-9767.

When will the Coton de Tulear be eligible to participate in the Miscellaneous Class?

The club has submitted the request to the AKC Board of Directors which will be reviewed at the May Meeting and voted on at the July meeting for inclusion in the Miscellaneous Class effective June 27, 2012.

What can I do with my dog in the interim?

The breed is eligible to compete in an AKC Sanctioned Match; you are eligible to compete in AKC Obedience, Rally and Agility. The club is encouraged to participate in the Meet the Breed Events being held by the AKC in New York City in November as well as in conjunction with the AKC Eukanuba National Championship in December in Orlando Florida. Many All Breed Clubs will be holding events for Responsible Dog Ownership Day in September which may also offer Meet the Breed opportunities.

What can I do to learn more about AKC and AKC Events?

The AKC Web site is your first resource for information. It is at times daunting as there is a great deal of information. It is also recommended that you become familiar with AKC All Breed shows, attend local shows, sign up with the Superintendent in your area to be on the mailing list. Join your local All Breed Club to learn more about how shows are held. You can find shows in your area by using the club search on the AKC Web Site.

Who should I contact at AKC if I have questions?

Please feel free to contact me directly, Mari-Beth O’Neill, mbo@akc.org or 919-816-3789 or the FSS email box is fss@akc.org. Christine Weisse will be assisting with the enrollment process, she answers the email in the FSS box and her direct line number is 919-816-3813.

We look forward to working with you and your future involvement in AKC Events.

Sincerely,
Mari-Beth O’Neill
